Bread

I want to make gluten free bread in a bread maker. Can I use any bread maker?

In researching bread makers on the internet it appears that some have a special programme "gluten free". Does this mean that any bread maker without this programme is not suitable for gluten free bread?

  1. Most of the programmes for making bread in the breadmaker are ok....just buy gluten free flour....it's a case of practise too..but still works
  2. as long as u get like rice flour or wheat free flour then follow the ingriedients as normal and u can do it in a bread maker. there are bread packs out there which are gluten free you could try this, i did get a gluten free bread mix for the kids i looked after and did it in the breadmaker but it didnt work. as long as you use the correct ammount of ingriedients it should be fine just change your flour. You never know until you try. :)
  3. Some bread makers come with a recipe for gluten free bread in the enclosed recipe book or leaflet, but all bread makers should be ok for making it. You should be able to find suitable recipes online by googling "gluten free bread for bread maker" which will bring up lots of likely looking sites. There are also GF bread mixes which are billed as suitable for bread making machines.
  4. Low gluten flour would be like a cake flour and would not make a good yeast bread, you could try but I think a soda bread like scones or Irish soda bread would be easier, they are good too,I have recipes for both including splenda recipes
  5. Do this: Go to Yahoo Health Groups "SillyYaks". Look through the files. We had a sort of 'academy awards" of gluten free stuff and there was a breadmaker that was voted number one. I want to say it was Sunbeam but Im NOT sure!! Just about any breadmaker will do but I would advice not buying the cheapest model! Gf dough is much thicker and often u need to add extra water. Get one that can tolerate thick dough. personally Im lazy and dont make my own! I use Kinninnick, Glutino or do without! But u can make it without the maker. Try Pamela's Pancake and Baking Mix. as well as BOb's Red MIll mixes. Enjoy!
